Douglas Linares Flinto agreed to share his entire story with News Leak.

Flinto considers this fact “a victory”, both for him and for “ all the whistleblowers that are being killed (and buried) around the world by companies that don’t respect their Code of Ethics”. In March 2016, the Italian journalists Andrea Greco and Giuseppe Oddo told Flinto’s story in the book “The Parallel State. In July 2014, he launched the blog Eni’s Way to spread his story all over the world.

In 2003, Flinto founded the Brazilian Ethics Institute in order to promote ethics in both the business and student world. Flinto strongly believes that his firing was the result of a retaliation, thus he decided to fight back against the company, a fight which has lasted nearly 15 years. He was fired in 2001 by Eni do Brazil (Eni’s Brazilian subsidiary) after reporting several cases of misconduct. The case of Douglas Linares Flinto involves the same countries and industry. In Brazil, former president, Dilma Rousseff, risked impeachment due to a bribery case related to Brazil’s national oil company, Petrobras. In Italy, on 31 March 2016, the Industry Minister Federica Guidi resigned after being accused of pressuring parliament to pass an amendment that would help her partner score millions of euros in contracts from French energy company, Total. Recent internationally known cases involve both oil companies and local governments. In the document mentioned here, you will know my expectations, not only regarding Eni itself, but also regarding international institutions and other #Stakeholders, including the Italian government, the company's controlling shareholder. And that's because, even with the best practices, a company can cause or contribute to causing negative and harmful consequences that it did not foresee or was unable to avoid.Corruption is a long-standing issue for companies all over the world.

In these more than 20 years, Eni has never carried out a #duediligence on my case in light of the commitments mentioned hereeven though it had asked me for a “proposal for amicable settlement” - in November 2020, through the Italian Ambassador in Brazil - and never having responded to this proposal, not even after being questioned by you during the company's Shareholders' Meeting, held in Rome, in May 2021. As if that were not enough, #Eni is not fulfilling the commitments assumed to its Stakeholders through its own policies and codes, declarations, norms, and procedures, as well as the international pacts, conventions, principles, and guidelines accepted and followed by Eni, including, the Italian government, the company's controlling shareholder, who appears in many of these international commitments, as an adherent, signatory or ratifying party.

The facts described (and the documents, incorporated in dozens of web links), are full proof that Eni is not only responsible for unjustly denigrating my name, my honor, and my reputation during all these years, but it is also responsible for destroying my professional career and taking my retirement out of my hands.

In this MEMORIAL I write my story with the Italian #oil giant since 2001, when I was unfairly fired - after denouncing a million-dollar “scheme” of fraud and acts of corruption, in compliance with the company’s Code of Ethics - going through the systemic imposition of #reprisals and the strategy of #victimization instrumentally engineered until the withdrawal of the “good offices” - offered by NCP Brazil, due to non-compliance with the “ #OCED Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises” - in march 2022.
